Inside Story

Season 13 Episode 5: Tabloid Truth

If you think that Michael Elphick 's Harry was tough, stand by for the real thing. News Team in Birmingham is one of the country's leading news agencies, working at a frenetic pace to place their locally generated stories on to the nation's breakfast tables. "You've got two or three minutes to phone a desk and get an order," explains picture editor Nick Bowman. Doorstepping the bereaved, dogging celebrities believed to be "playing away from home", poking their telephoto lenses through the shrubs, the job demands a ruthless streak. And if it comes down to trying to do a deal with a rival, then as head of news Christine Challand says, "you hope there's a bit of honour among thieves".
